The machine that produces everything on these pages is a computer controlled router. The router is fastened to the 3 axis table providing movement in three directions. A router is a fairly small machine (they are usually hand held) that has a vertically mounted spindle that protrudes from the bottom of the machine. The motor housed above it spins this spindle from 10,000 to over 20,000 RPMs (revolutions per minute). The spindle has a collet, a device that holds router bits which are commonly called “cutters”. These bits can be manufactured in many different shapes, used for many purposes. The controller moves the bit down into the material and then along the path required to satisfy the design being created.
